Labour Party Members must have both a say and a real choice in who is to be the next Leader of the Scottish Labour Party. The Campaign for Socialism*, has demanded that every Labour party member must be consulted over who is to replace Henry McLeish. Henry McLeish was chosen by a joint meeting of Labour MSPs and the Labour Party Scottish Executive with no vote by the wider party. Vince Mills, Secretary of the Campaign for Socialism commented: " There must be a full vote of Party members and Trade Unionists. Only by showing that a new leader has support across the whole of the Party can we hope to reclaim some of the ground we have lost in the last few days. It is not sufficient that a small gathering of the 'great and the good' can meet and allow a leader to emerge. Every party member should have a say. It is to be hoped that party members will be offered a real choice between alternative political visions and perspectives rather than a choice between alternative political careers. |
