Scottish Labour Left supports demonstration against Allawi |

The Scottish Campaign for Socialism (CfS) supports those groups like Save the Labour Party, Labour CND and Labour Against the War in their opposition to Tony Blair’s invitation to Iyad Allawi to address this year’s annual conference of the Labour Party. Allawi is the unelected
Allawi has worked for the Baathist regime before being recruited and working for British and US intelligence. As interim prime minister, his hard line stance against the opposition in Iraq has only inflamed the situation there, leading to more death and destruction.
The Secretary of CfS Vince Mills said:
‘This decision by Blair shows how out of touch with the members of the Labour Party he has become. While the Labour Party membership haemorrhages, many leaving over Iraq and Blair rubs salt into the wounds by bringing a product of his failure in Iraq to lecture us at our own conference. This is arrogance personified. The CfS will support Labour CND’s plans for a demonstration at the conference.’
