Stop the Scotland Airport Arms Shipments |

The Campaign for Socialism would like to add its name to the long list of those condemning the massacre of civilians in the Qana in the Lebanon. In view of the deaths of these innocent civilians it is all the more important that UK is not complicit in the shipping of weapons to the Middle East. The CfS therefore calls for full support for the following Scottish Parliament motion in the name of Elaine Smith MSP which will be published on Monday
That the Parliament expresses alarm regarding the Israeli military assault on Lebanon; coveys particular concern at the Foreign Office's weak response to the issue of the transhipment of US arms to Israel via Prestwick Airport; considers that the consignment of 'bunker busting bombs' which have already passed through Scotland will likely be used against Lebanese targets, with the potential to injure innocent civilians; recognises findings which show that 61% of Britons do not support the nature of Israel's actions in Lebanon; suggests that the Scottish Executive should liaise with Her Majesty's Government to ensure the immediate cessation of such arms transhipments and further requests that it expresses support for the demand for an immediate ceasefire at outlined by UN Secretary General Kofi Annan.
